The Playground Theatre, SPID & KOTG Presents
The Story of Fires and Floods
Grenfell’s Fifth Anniversary
A stand for solidarity
To commemorate Grenfell’s fifth anniversary this June, SPID will be touring estates and schools performing The Story of Fires and Floods. The interactive speech features local people – including those who lost friends and homes to fire. Voices were recorded at nearby Kids on The Green. This inspiring film captures the experience, which premiers at The Playground Theatre, Kids on the Green over the Jubilee weekend June 2-5.
For fifteen years, the award winning SPID has dramatized the history of social housing from their base in Kensal House estate close to Grenfell through site specific performances and study guides. The Story of Fires and Floods is the sequel to The Burning Tower, sold by Waterstones and performed by youth groups UK wide. Five years on, theatres have yet to program a response to Grenfell. The participatory experience gives audiences the chance to take part in championing housing justice and raise funds for Grenfell United.
