On Behalf Of A Madman

Tues 10th Nov - Sat 14th November 7.30pm

When footage from a West Wing staff party is leaked to a major news channel, the president is on the warpath looking for a culprit. Staffers scheme and second-guess each other amidst the misleading headlines, and politicians exploit the turmoil for their own ends.

Sound familiar? Mozart, Haydn, Rossini, and Donizetti would have thought so. This brand new opera, based on a concept originated by the American period-instrument ensemble Grand Harmonie in 2018, and woven together from 18th and 19th century plots with new dialogue, will make you see today’s politics from a totally new vantage point.

Directed by Julia Mintzer (Welsh National Opera) with an original script by Charles Ogilvie (Gothic Opera), conducted and arranged by Thomas Payne (Royal Opera House).

Cast includes Milena Knauss,   Rodney Earl Clarke (Les Miserables) and Lizzie Holmes (Grange Park Opera).

Making sense of the 24 hour News cycle is enough to exhaust even diehard politics fans. So on the eve of the US election welcome instead to our Oval Office, where the corruption is timeless and the jokes are bang up to date; where all the news is fake but there’s a lot more singing!

This is the musical catharsis you’ve been waiting for.

In association with The Maltings Theatre.

How To Buy your Ticket
Each ticket corresponds to the number of seats you need. For example if there are two of you, buy ONE ticket of 'Room For Two People' - this will give you two seats in a cluster socially distant from other seats. 'Room for Three' gives you three seats on one ticket and so on. If there are up to six people in your party, buy any combination of each ticket to add up to the number of seats you need.

Each individual ticket as named gives you:
Room For One Person = one seat
Room For Two People = two seats grouped together
Room For Three People = three seats  grouped together
Room For Four People = four seats grouped together

Social Distance Seating at The Playground Theatre
To comply with Covid-19 Social Distancing guidelines, tickets for this event are only available in seating clusters of seats. Patrons who are coming in a party of up to six people will need to purchase two or more seating clusters appropriate to their needs. Your party may not necessarily be in clusters of seats next to each other, but each cluster is socially distant from other seats.
The venue has a limited number of solo seats and to maintain social distancing within the theatre anyone requiring solo seating when all of these are sold will need to purchase a 'Room For Two' or higher ticket.

Parties or groups larger than six people may be refused admission to comply with the latest Covid-19 Social Distancing Guidelines. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause but the venue has to ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons visiting the theatre and the seating restrictions enable us to comply with these requirements and still stage live theatre for you to enjoy.

Latecomers
To ensure the health and safety of all audience members, performers and theatre staff and reduce the risk of Covid-19 cross-contamination we regret that any latecomers will not be permitted into the Theatre.

Covid19
Please ensure you bring and wear a mask in the theatre or purchase one from the box office. Please be advised that if anyone attending shows signs of being unwell or receives a temperature test that indicates they may be affected by Covid19 , the venue reserves the right to refuse admission in the interests of health and safety of all patrons in the theatre.

Temperature checks are being taken at point of entry and you are also required to either provide your contact details for track and trace or scan the QR code linked to the NHS tracking app.

Please note all seating purchases are final and refunds in part or in whole cannot be made if you or a member of your party is unable to attend or is refused entry due to late arrival or as a result of a high temperature check or showing symptoms associated with Covid-19.
